The Federal Minister of Energy, Mining and Industry Vedran Lakić held a meeting with the bankruptcy trustee of Koksara Lukavac, Almir Bajrić, at which it was said that the premises of the former Koksara should not be a symbol of the shutdown of a factory, but the beginning of a new development chance for the city, workers and the entire Tuzla Canton.

The meeting discussed the current situation in Koksara, the possibilities of repurposing the existing complex and the need to find a potential investor. The meeting, which was also attended by Tuzla Canton Assembly member Mirela Memić, came about after the bankruptcy trustee of Koksare Lukavac sent a letter to the competent institutions, asking for support in the process of finding a potential investor and a new purpose for this industrial complex.

In the statement of the Federal Ministry of Energy, Mining and Industry, it was emphasized that the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina was never the owner of Koksara Lukavac nor did it manage this company, but that it understands how important this complex is for Lukavac, the workers and the entire Tuzla Canton.

“Therefore, within its competence, it wants to be part of the solution and support efforts to put this area back into the function of development, new investments and jobs,” it was emphasized.

Minister Lakić emphasized that the former Coke Plant complex still has significant value.

“We are not talking only about property here, but about a space that has infrastructure, industrial tradition and people who know what production means. Our obligation is to seek a way to put this area back into function together with the local community, the bankruptcy trustee and potential partners. The Coke Plant may no longer be what it once was, but it can become a place for new industries, investments and jobs ,” said Lakić.

During the meeting, he presented potential investment opportunities for projects in the field of energy, energy infrastructure and industry that could be interesting for the area of the former Coke Plant.

Bankruptcy trustee Almir Bajrić thanked the Ministry and the Government of the Federation of BiH for their willingness to join this process, emphasizing that it is important that all relevant institutions contribute to finding investors and new uses for this complex.

The statement also stated that Lukavac must not be left without its industrial perspective.
