82 years have passed since the Igman march. One of the most significant operations during the national liberation struggle in the Second World War. And unique in the world. The mayor of Sarajevo, Benjamina Karić, hosted representatives of anti-fascists from neighboring countries and Bosnia and Herzegovina in the City Hall on that occasion.
Today is also the International Holocaust Remembrance Day.
She bowed to the victims of Nazi persecution at the Old Jewish Cemetery “Borik” and spoke at the Central Commemorative Academy.
“The culture of remembrance of the Holocaust is our duty. I invite you and me to look in the mirror and admit to ourselves, have we learned our lesson? Do our children know that lesson, can we now guarantee that we ourselves, but also as a society, know how to recognize genocide? How hard are our words “never again” really?!,” Mayor Karić pointed out, among other things, in her address.
As long as there is doubt about the consistency of that conversation with ourselves, we are obliged to remind, preserve the memory and pay tribute to the victims, announced the City of Sarajevo.
