The city of Bihac has become a recognizable tourist destination, which year after year records more and more visits by domestic and foreign tourists who want to spend their vacation right here. Given that tourism is one of the main branches of the development of the Una-Sana Canton, we work tirelessly to improve the offer even while the season lasts.
Una-Sana canton is visited by tourists every day. After previous, less successful seasons due to the pandemic and the migrant crisis, this year exceeds all expectations.
“We also record tourists from the USA, Australia… These are numbers that cannot be made bigger, but it motivates when people from all over the world stop by and come to our city with certain intentions. This city lives a specific and interesting rhythm and pulse, and we think that this summer will be the most exciting to date”, says Mehmed Mahmutovic, representative of the Tourist Board of the City of Bihac.
Recently, this part of Bosnia and Herzegovina has become an increasingly interesting destination for young married couples who, instead of the sea, prefer Una, but also the nature that surrounds it.
“As far as we have been able to see so far, this country is beautiful. “Compared to Croatia, where we have been before, it is not only much cheaper here, but there is also more to see,” says Josephine from France.
Stefan and Livia are a married couple from Switzerland: “Our nature is also great and there are many waterfalls, but we don’t have a view like this there.”
And in addition to young people, older people who want to escape from the noise of the city also come on vacation.
“A friend from Sarajevo recommended us to come here. First we visited Plitvice and then came here, we have not regretted it,” says the German Uli.
Summer is never hotter, and hotels, apartments and motels are mostly full. Although frequent price increases dictate the price of accommodation and catering services, the daily influx of tourists indicates a successful season, so those who work in that sector are more than satisfied.
Accommodation facilities exist, nature and fairy-tale scenes are well known to most – however, what are we missing and how can we fix it? The souvenir shop is one segment that is missing – as tourist workers say, tourism is not just an overnight stay.
In order for the offer on the larger market to be more competitive, more investment is needed. Tourism is a development opportunity not only for the Una-Sana Canton, but for the whole of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Therefore, let’s spend the summer within its borders.
