The Netherlands Compensation Commission will no longer process new Claims from Victims’ Families

As of June 15th, 2023, The Netherlands Compensation Commission Potocari (NCCP) will no longer process new claims for compensation.

On June 15th, 2021, the NCCP began the implementation of the Srebrenica civil law settlement regarding compensation for damages. The compensation scheme applies only to the relatives of the murdered men who were in the United Nations (UN) base in Potocari on July 13th, 1995.

NCCP will process all applications received before June 15th, 2023 according to the usual procedure. Applicants will receive a confirmation of receipt within one month, after which the application will be evaluated.

If the NCCP suspects that the victim was at the UN base on that day, the Commission will request additional information from the applicant. These additional data can be submitted to the NCCP after June 15th, 2023. The NCCP offices in The Hague and Sarajevo remain open.

“Applicants can also make an appointment at one of the offices after June 14th or send an e-mail, fax, or mail to the NCCP. For almost 2 years, the NCCP has managed to get in touch with many relatives in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) and the Diaspora,” says Commission President Wortmann.

“It was emotionally difficult for many people to go back to those terrible days in 1995. Unfortunately, we had to disappoint many by rejecting their claim for compensation. But the compensation is limited to the relatives of those people who were in the UN base, also known as the former battery factory, on July 13th, 1995.”, Klix.ba reports.
