The Number of infected People in BiH is growing every Day

We record a large number of newly infected with coronavirus every day. The health institutions warn that they are expanding their capacities day by day and that they expect relief only in March.

”The Omicron strain is spreading terribly fast. The peak of the number of infected in the fifth wave can be expected in about seven days, ” noted Ednan Drljevic.

“We very often find among patients without symptoms who suffer from another disease every day more and more people who are positive for coronavirus, but it is certain that the omicron strain has not taken over so far. The delta strain is still dominant,” Ednan Drljevic, Head of the Infectious Diseases Department of the Sarajevo General Hospital, said.

It is difficult to assess whether you are infected with Delta or Omicron variant of the coronavirus. The symptoms are almost the same. The only difference is the speed at which they spread, microbiologists say.

“There is a laboratory method, and that is the sequencing of the genetic material of an isolated coronavirus, and based on it, it is possible to say that it is an omicron or delta variant of the coronavirus,” said Sukrija Zvizdic, a microbiologist.

Epidemiologists predict an increase in the number of infected. When it comes to measures, the entities and cantons adopt them individually. They are mostly similar, and it is up to the citizens to listen to the recommendations and assess what applies to them. Shortening the insulation is also an option.

“I believe that the Crisis Staff should bring that. Certainly, there are five days, seven days in the game, so one significant reduction of that isolation,” Goran Cerkez, Chairman of the Crisis Staff of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH), pointed out.

Health workers warn of the seriousness of the epidemiological situation, appeal for vaccination, while the interest of citizens in immunization is still very low. The Ministry of Civil Affairs of BiH has warned that vaccines are expiring. The University Clinical Center of Republika Srpska (RS) said that the relief of health institutions is expected only in March.
