The PIC involved in solving the Problem of Education of Returnee Children in the RS

childrenThe Minister of Civil Affairs of B&H, Adil Osmanović, was invited by the High Representative of B&H, Valentin Inzko, and members of the Board of the Peace Implementation Council in Bosnia and Herzegovina to attend a meeting in which the problem of education of returnee children in the RS will be discussed.

The invitation is also the answer to a letter that Osmanović sent more than a month ago to Inzko and the Ambassador of the PIC Board members where he demanded their immediate commitment to solve the pressing problem of the education of returnee children.

Inzko wrote to the Minister of Civil Affairs of B&H that he believed that in the RS the language which has been used in the educational system and in the school report cards of the Bosniak children has been called the Bosnian language for years.

“The recent references which changed this practice brought in question the different treatment of Bosniak children and children of Croatian and Serbian nationality. I am convinced that the fact that the Conference of the Education Ministers is still without a long-term solution to education highlights the importance of every responsible minister in ensuring the respect of the fundamental right of children to education in a way which is non-discriminatory and inclusive”, as Inzko said in his answer to Osmanović.

The High Representative further stated that more needs to be done in order to make children focus in class, and that setting the agreement and a final solution is of high importance.

“There is no alternative but to make all the stakeholders cooperate in order to get the practical solutions which are in the best  interest of the children in this country, wherever they live”, as Inzko added.

The parents of the returnee children in the RS have been fighting a battle in the last three years to give their children the right to education and language. The Minister of Civil Affairs of B&H, Adil Osmanović involved into their battle and, among other things , sent a couple of letters to the different representatives. Besides Inzko, he has got an answer only from the Head of EU Delegation in B&H, Lars-Gunnar Wigemark.
