The Minister of Transport of the Canton Sarajevo (CS), Adnan Steta, held a meeting with representatives of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), where they discussed new projects of transport infrastructure in the CS.

At the meeting, ideas were presented about vertical transportation, procurement of new minibusses and buses, and the park&ride project.

”The construction of cable cars that will connect Hrasnica and Igman, Pionirska Dolina and Barice, and Vratnik and Bistrik were, among other things, the topic of the meeting. The function of each of these cable cars is different, but in any case, the ultimate goal is a better connection of locations, faster traffic and high-quality new transportation,” pointed out Minister Steta.

In the following period, with the support of the EBRD, the first steps will be taken to prepare a feasibility study for their construction.

They also discussed the acquisition of new minibusses and buses, which are necessary for even better performance of public transport, especially in the hilly parts of this canton.

”The situation we have now is significantly better compared to some previous years when it comes to public transport, however, we still have a lot of work to do both in the procurement of vehicles and in the construction of infrastructure, in order to completely change the image of Sarajevo,” added Minister Steta.

EBRD representatives were also presented with the idea of a park&ride project with proposed locations of free parking lots, after which citizens would be directed to use the nearest public transport.

In the following period, the Ministry of Transport will initiate all the processes that are necessary for the start of procedural activities for the mentioned projects.
