The President of Argentina announced the Country’s Withdrawal from WHO

Argentine President Javier Milei will withdraw Argentina from the World Health Organization (WHO), citing “deep differences regarding healthcare management and the political influence of certain states” as the reason.

“The President has instructed Foreign Minister Gerardo Werthein to withdraw Argentina from the WHO,” said Argentine presidential spokesperson Manuel Adorni.

Argentinians “will not allow an international organization to intervene in our sovereignty, let alone in our healthcare,” he added.

Argentina’s announcement of its withdrawal from the WHO comes immediately after the United States (U.S.) announced its withdrawal from the organization.

Upon returning to the White House at the end of January, Donald Trump signed an order aimed at withdrawing the U.S. from the WHO, which he had previously harshly criticized for its alleged poor management of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Milei, who has been in power since December 2023, has repeatedly demonstrated his ideological closeness to Trump, whom he considers his main and natural ally.

The U.S. withdrawal from the WHO is set to take effect at the end of January 2026.
