Montenegrin President Jakov Milatović said he would convene an emergency session of the Defense and Security Council due to the escalation of violence in the country. The session will be held within the shortest legally prescribed deadline.

“Due to the recent events, the escalation of violence on our streets and the conflicts between criminal clans, which rightly cause concern and a sense of fear among citizens, I have decided to convene an emergency session of the Defense and Security Council. The session will be held within the shortest legally prescribed deadline,” Milatović wrote on the X network, Montenegrin media reported.

In addition to the members of the Council, the Speaker of the Parliament and the Prime Minister, representatives of the Government responsible for security departments will also be invited to the session, as Milatović said. The meeting will also include the heads of key security institutions – the Police Directorate and the National Security Agency.

“From the competent institutions I am asking for: – a detailed insight into the current situation – clear, decisive and immediately applicable measures to preserve and protect public safety. Citizens must have the feeling that the state stands behind them strongly, organized and without hesitation. Due to the seriousness of the situation, I expect the presence of all invited members and participants of the session,” said Milatović.

Two murders took place in Podgorica in four days.
