The spokeswoman for the Institute for Missing Persons of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), Emza Fazlic, said that the remains exhumed from under a fountain in the locality of Srpska Varos in Brcko belong to two victims of the genocide in Srebrenica.
In an interview, she said that after the exhumation that was carried out on September 20th last year at the Srpska Varoslocation in Brcko, and when the remains of the victims of the last war were found encased in concrete in a fountain in the yard of a private house, based on DNA analysis determined that the remains belong to two victims of the genocide committed in Srebrenica in 1995.
She reminded that the said remains were brought to Brcko in 1997 by doctor Nebojsa Mraovic, according to the witnesses’ claims, but also by his own admission, after which he studied them and used them in his practice, until at the end of 2012 they were hidden and cemented under the fountain that is located in the yard of his family house in Brcko.
Fazlic notes that the case was reported to the Institute for Missing Persons of BiH by witnesses who knew that there were remains that the doctor allegedly brought from hunting, and that an exhumation was then scheduled, during which the remains were found.
“After the exhumation that was carried out at the time, bone samples were taken out and sent for DNA analysis, and the information we had at the time, that the remains belonged to a victim from Srebrenica, turned out to be correct. At that time, it was assumed that they were the incomplete remains of one victim, but after the DNA analysis, two identities were actually obtained, that is, it was determined that those remains belong to two victims,” explained Fazlic.
According to her, DNA analysis determined that these remains belong to two victims of the genocide committed in Srebrenica.
Fazlic says that these victims disappeared in the summer of 1995 in the area of Zapolje in Vlasenica. Their incomplete remains were exhumed years after they were killed, that is, three years after, according to witnesses, a doctor found these bones while hunting and took a part of them.
She said that in both cases the remains were found on the surface of the field in Cerska, “so according to this, it turns out that Mraovic found the remains on the surface of the field and took one part of them and possessed them all these years, while other parts of the skeletons of the same victims were found and identified in later years”, Klix.ba writes.
