On the occasion of the completed procedure for the protection of Sarajevo ćevap, a press conference was held today by the mayor of Sarajevo, Benjamina Karić, representative of the USAID mission and director of the Agency for Food Safety Džemil Hajrić.

The conference was attended by representatives of the Association of Cevaps and City of Sarajevo consultant Emir Đedović.

“When we talk about all that Sarajevo represents, there are many things on our minds. We are proud of the history, the Olympic spirit, but what is always especially important is the gastronomy and the offer that attracts a large number of tourists. If you came to Sarajevo and did not once you’ve tried cevaps, you can’t leave the city,” said Karić and emphasized that Sarajevo cevaps are an important part of the capital’s tourist offer.

She explained how this process started two years ago.

“Two years ago, we started the process of protecting cevaps. We will continue to work on the protection of indigenous domestic products. It is now protected as a brand and as a special traditional BiH product. What is important is that after the protection of kebabs as a brand, the protection of kebabs in EU. We can announce that after the protection of cevaps, we will go into action to protect Sarajevo flatbread,” said Karić.

Karić invited all citizens to come tonight to the square in front of the Baščaršija mosque, where kebab makers will prepare 3,000 kebabs for tasting.

Director of the USAID mission in BiH, Courtney Chubb, expressed her delight at the fact that Sarajevo cevap is protected as a brand.

“I can only congratulate everyone whose work has ensured the protection of a product such as Sarajevo’s ćevap. In addition to being delicious, it is a key part of the city’s gastronomic offer. As an American, I was fortunate to be able to host a lot of friends here. In addition to being enthusiastic about Sarajevo, the first thing we do is go to a cevap shop,” says Chubb.

The Director of the Agency for Food Safety Džemil Hajrić also addressed the journalists.

“Today we mark the culmination of our efforts that we started a few years ago, and it concerns the harmonization of BiH legislation with the EU. Among other things, one of them is the quality policy. We will enable placement through added value, not only on the BiH market, but much more The process resulted in the BiH Council of Ministers adopting a legal framework that allowed us to strongly promote the designation of geographical origin, the traditional reputation of food. Sarajevo kebab is the eighth product that has gone through the procedure and is probably one of the most important, says Hajrić, Onasa writes.
