The Sarajevo Energy Forum (SEF), one of the most important regional gatherings dedicated to the energy industry, will soon begin. It will be held on June 21st –23rd at the Hills Hotel in Ilidza.

The forum will bring together experts, business people, and government representatives who will discuss the importance of switching to renewable energy sources and ways to achieve this. As is already known, the transition to renewable energy sources is crucial for the sustainable future of the planet, and the energy forum will focus on this very topic. SEF is sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations, headed by Minister Stasa Kosarac, and Nasiha Pozder, Minister of Environment and Tourism of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH), Petar Djokic, Minister of Industry, Mining and Energy of Republika Srpska (RS), Janez Kopac, energy expert from EU4Energy, Maja Pokrovac, director of Renewable Energy Sources of Croatia.

BiH, like the countries of Southeast Europe, has committed to decarbonization, i.e. the implementation of the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans, supporting the Union’s goals to make Europe CO2 climate neutral by 2050. Our country’s obligation is to reduce emissions by more than one third by 2030 and two thirds by 2050. Decarbonization is an inevitable process. It is even more difficult when fossil fuels are the mainstay of industry. The ratio of the installed capacity of coal-fired thermal power plants to the capacity of renewable energy sources is 70 to 30 percent. The signed obligations must be fulfilled, and the deadlines expire. Where do BiH and the countries of the regionstand in terms of the decarbonization process today? What are the countries committed to, what are the deadlines and what should be the benefits of the implementation of the Sofia Declaration on the Green Agenda? At what stage are the development of integrated climate and energy plans of the countries of the region with a special emphasis on the use of renewable energy sources? All these questions will be discussed at the SEF.

Prime Ministers Mustafa Ruznic, Nihad Uk, Amra Mehmedic, as well as heads/mayors of local communities who have good practices and ideas on how to improve this sector, will also have the opportunity to talk about the possibilities and energy opportunities in their cantons. Also, numerous media partners will be present, and the Foreign Trade Chamber of BiH stands out as an institutional partner, as well as numerous other companies, Klix.ba reports.
