The renowned Senegalese skier Lamine Gueye has arrived in Sarajevo, where he was received at City Hall by Sarajevo Mayor Samir Avdic.

The sixty-five-year-old Gueye came to Sarajevo on the occasion of the promotion of the documentary film “Sarajevo Downhill” by author and director Aleksandra Fracassa-Kostic.

“Sarajevo Downhill” is the story of Gueye, who in Sarajevo in 1984 became the first skier from Senegal to compete in alpine disciplines at the Winter Olympic Games.

In the downhill, Gueye finished 51st out of 61 competitors, while in the giant slalom, he placed 57th out of 108 competitors.

“Welcome to your city, Lamine Gueye! ‘Sarajevo Downhill’, a true and powerful sports story from the Olympic Games in Sarajevo!

It was my great pleasure today to host the authors and collaborators of this documentary film at City Hall, but to extend a special welcome to Lamine Gueye, a man who made history by competing at the 1984 Winter Olympic Games.

Gueye is an athlete from Senegal who competed in an alpine discipline at the Olympics, right here, in our Sarajevo.

His sporting feat left an everlasting mark in the Olympic history of our city, a symbol of openness, togetherness, and diversity, which served as inspiration for a film production led by the distinguished Bosnian actor Adnan Haskovic.

Thank you to Adnan, to the entire team behind the documentary, as well as to the author and director Aleksandra Fracassa-Kostic, who shared this idea with Haskovic several years ago.

The reception at Sarajevo City Hall is not merely a symbolic act. It is a clear, institutional support for a culture of remembrance, the affirmation of universal values, and a strong reminder of the Olympic spirit and identity of our Sarajevo!” Avdic said, Klix.ba writes.
