The Stability of the Western Balkans is a long-term Strategic Goal of the Alliance

“I can assure you that the North Atlantic Alliance (NATO) strongly supports the Euro-Atlantic path of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Alliance will continue to cooperate with your country and other international partners to preserve stability and promote reforms in Bosnia and Herzegovina,” according to the letter of Jens Stoltenberg, Secretary General of NATO, addressed to Bisera Turkovic, Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Stoltenberg replied to Turkovic’s letter in which she informed him about the challenges Bosnia and Herzegovina is facing in connection with current events in Europe and the region.

“Russian aggression against Ukraine fundamentally undermines European security. That is why NATO is ready to continue supporting partners who may be exposed to malignant influence and pressure, in order to strengthen their resilience. As you know, NATO is developing a set of measures, especially tailored for Bosnia and Herzegovina, in accordance with your needs”, stated the NATO Secretary General.

The stability of the Western Balkans, as stated in the letter, is a long-term strategic goal of the Alliance to which it remains committed to the end.

He expressed concern over separatist rhetoric and activities that threaten to undermine the success of the Dayton Peace Agreement.

He stated that NATO strongly and unequivocally supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as the functionality of its institutions.
