The US Embassy condemns the unconstitutional and anti-Dayton Laws of the RSNA

The United States Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina has reacted to the latest decisions of the authorities of the Republika Srpska entity and the laws adopted by the RS National Assembly, assessing them as unconstitutional and contrary to the Dayton Peace Agreement.

“As the State Department spokesperson stated, we will resolutely oppose all actions by local leaders in BiH that would undermine the security and stability of BiH. We stand by what we have said. We condemn the unconstitutional and anti-Dayton laws that were passed last night by the Republika Srpska National Assembly,” the US Embassy announced on the X platform.

The Embassy said that it expects local leaders to immediately cease activities that undermine the Dayton Peace Agreement and the constitutional and legal order of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

As a reminder, the RS National Assembly adopted yesterday the Draft Law on the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council of Republika Srpska, the Draft Law on the Non-Application of Laws and the Prohibition of the Activities of “Extra-Constitutional Institutions of BiH” (Court, Prosecutor’s Office, SIPA), the Draft Law on Amendments to the Criminal Code of Republika Srpska, and the Draft Law on the Special Registry and Transparency of the Work of Non-Profit Organizations.

The reason for the adoption of the law is the ruling of the Court of BiH according to which the President of the RS, Milorad Dodik, was sentenced in the first instance to one year in prison and a six-year ban from holding the office of President of the RS for disrespecting the decisions of the High Representative in BiH, Christian Schmidt.
