The victims of the former ‘protected enclaves of the UN in Bosnia and Herzegovina’ turned to Chief Prosecutor Serge Brammertz in the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Courts (IMRC) and Brian Aggeler, head of the OSCE Mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina, requesting the establishment of an international commission because, as they state, , “they no longer trust the Prosecutor’s Office and the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina”.
“After a letter to the Secretary General of the United Nations, the associations of victims of the once protected UN enclaves in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as they announced at the protests in Goražde and Sarajevo, addressed the chief prosecutor Serge Brammertz in the MRMKS and Brian Aggeler, head of the OSCE Mission in BiH, from whom they requested the formation of an international commission that will objectively conduct an investigation and determine why there are no indictments in BiH for the sieges of the UN protected zones – Sarajevo, Goražde, Bihać, Tuzla, Srebrenica and Žepa, from the signing of the Dayton Peace Agreement until today,” it was announced from the Foundation ‘Truth for Goražde’ BPK.
In a letter addressed to two international officials, the victims’ associations request that the MRMKS and the OSCE initiate and form an international commission headed by Joanna Korner, that is, former prosecutors of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia/International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Courts.
Expressing their support for the previous reports of the ICTY/MICT to the Security Council, the associations also support opening a debate within the United Nations with a proposal for measures and actions, and in connection with the reports of the ICTY/MICT sent to the Security Council of the United Nations, and the obstructions and blockades that are continuously implemented, especially in the implementation regional cooperation in the countries of the former SFRY.
In the letter to Brammertz and Aggeler, the associations state that they invited the UN Secretary General to join the discussion, as well as the European Union and OHR in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Along with the letter to Brammertz and Aggeler, the associations attached the letter they sent to the Secretary General of the United Nations and the demands they presented at two public protests – in Goražde and in Sarajevo before the Prosecutor’s Office and the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Among them are requests for the resignation/replacement of the chief prosecutor of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH and the blocking of funds from European funds for the work of the Prosecutor’s Office and the Court of BiH.
“Criminal prosecution of those responsible for the sieges of protected zones of the United Nations is a priority, and we believe that until those responsible are sanctioned, the Prosecutor’s Office and the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina have lost all credibility. We, the victims, have no confidence in the work of the Prosecutor’s Office and the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina,” the letter emphasizes.
The letter also pleads for the formation of an international commission as soon as possible.
“We ask you to form an international commission as soon as possible and to emphasize and emphasize in your next reports to the UN and other international entities that crimes against UN protected zones in Bosnia and Herzegovina have not been prosecuted since the Dayton Peace Agreement,” the letter states, among other things which are signed by – Foundation ‘Truth for Goražde’, Association of Victims and Witnesses of Genocide, Association of Murdered Children, Association Movement ‘Mother Enclaves of Srebrenica and Žepa’, Union of Associations of Prisoners of USK ‘Dr. Irfan Ljubijankić’, the Association of Camp Inmates ‘Goražde’ and the Association of Civilian Victims of the BPK War.
