There is still a large number of migrants in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), and international and local non-governmental organizations are the main providers of humanitarian aid.
According to Alen Kajtaz, secretary of the Red Cross of the City of Mostar, there are no migrants in the area of the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton (HNC), but he is not sure that this trend will continue in the future.
However, Kajtaz adds, that if 2018 were to repeat itself when 189 migrants arrived in Salakovac, then we can expect help from the international community.
Continuous support for migrants by Caritas BiH
Caritas BiH also continuously carries out activities, primarily in migrant camps in Una-Sana Canton (USC) – Borici and Lipa camps, and Canton Sarajevo (CS) – Blazuj and Usivak camps.
According to their information, there are currently around 1.500 migrants and asylum seekers in these camps, and there are also some outside the camps.
On an annual basis, according to the officially registered arrivals in BiH for the current year, 16.000 migrants are already registered in BiH, primarily from Afghanistan and Burundi, and to a lesser extent from Pakistan, Iran, and Cuba. They are mostly young people, often minors, as well as part of families with children.
