Thirty million dollars in cash was stolen from a warehouse in the San Fernando Valley, which is why members of the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Los Angeles Police Department launched an investigation, reports CNN.

The robbery, the largest in the city’s history, took place last weekend in Silmar, north of Los Angeles, in a facility where cash from all the companies in the region is stored.

The burglars gained access to the building and entered the vault without activating the alarm. Police believe they are a fairly sophisticated group based on their ability to evade detection.

An investigation is ongoing into whether the group had an insider, who gave them information about the location and who helped them get in.

The previous biggest robbery in Los Angeles happened on September 12, 1997, when 18.9 million dollars was stolen from a company.
