Thousands of people attended the funeral of the commander of the Revolutionary Guard killed in an Israeli attack in Syria today in Tehran, state media reported. Brigadier General Razi Mousavi was killed in a rocket attack south of Damascus on Monday.

Mousavi was the commander of the Quds Force, the foreign operations branch and elite unit of the Revolutionary Guard.

Thousands of people gathered this morning in the center of Tehran, on Imam Hussein Square, shouting “death to Israel” and “death to the United States of America”. Revolutionary Guard leader Hossein Salami said Mousavi was “one of the most experienced and effective commanders of the Guard on the resistance front.”

Tehran blamed Israel for the general’s death. Regarding the attack in which Mousavi was killed, Israel announced that it “does not comment on information from foreign media”.

Damascus has appealed to the United Nations to act against “aggressive Israeli actions” that are likely to “set the region on fire”, the Syrian news agency Sana reported.
