With the presence of thousands of citizens, a collective funeral prayer was held in Jablanica on Tuesday and the burial of 19 victims of the catastrophic floods that hit the area of this Bosnian city at the beginning of the month was carried out, reports Anadolu news agency.

The funeral was held in the “Jasen” harem in Jablanica, and the prayer was led by the reisul-ulema of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina Husein-ef. Kavazovic.

Along with members of the victims’ families, the funeral was attended by the Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Denis Bećirović, the Prime Minister of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina Nermin Nikšić, representatives of other levels of government, numerous representatives of the Islamic community, representatives of other religious communities and numerous citizens of Jablanica and other parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Before the funeral prayer, at the place where the coffins with the bodies of the victims were previously brought, many members of their families arrived to say goodbye to their loved ones for the last time. For them, these were poignant and emotional moments.

Reisul-ulema Kavazović, in his address to those present, before the beginning of the funeral prayer, pointed out that today every speech is superfluous, except for the words of the Almighty God and His Prophet Muhammad.

“We have gathered to see our brothers and sisters off to the Better World, to the Hereafter, although the sadness in our hearts is great, deep and crushing, but we are also aware that dear God decides in our lives. We are mortal people, we differ in it’s just that we leave this world in different ways. Today we send off these 19 martyrs, as I said, because that’s who they are,” said Kavazović, quoting a hadith in which it is said that a drowned person is a martyr (one who lays down his life in the path of God ).

“He who drowned, he is therefore a martyr, and we send these brothers of ours, who have testified to the faith of Almighty Allah with their lives and struggle, to a better world today. I ask the dear God to introduce them to the gardens of paradise, and to grant their families peace and patience.” said Kavazović and added:

“I just want to say that we have a permanent obligation to them and their families. We must not forget them or leave their families. Here are the most important people from our society, they bear witness to this. I hope they will take a lesson from this and that will of course work for the safety of our people, whatever that means.”

After the funeral service, the victims will be buried at the local cemeteries of Donja Jablanica, Djevor and Zlate.

Funeral prayers were offered for 19 victims: Begović (Salem) Ajla 1995-2024, Begović (Muhamed) Ernad 1978-2024, Begović (Mahmut) Huma 1966-2024, Begović (Salko) Rahima 1948-2024.
