The diving club “Neretva” organized a traditional ecological action to clean the banks of the Neretva river called “The Bridge”, which brought together diving clubs from Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region, as well as numerous activists and volunteers.
According to the president of the “Neretva” Diving Club, Mira Dušić, today’s action included the cleaning of the area from Carinsko to the Hasan Brkić bridge in Mostar, and more than a hundred people were involved in it.
“Many clubs from Mostar, Sarajevo, Lukavac, Novi Sad, Croatia responded to the campaign… There will be approximately four to five groups of five divers each, and work will be done on the stretch from Carinsko to the Hasan Brkić bridge. There will be a lot of volunteers on the banks and all the garbage we collect from the banks and from the river will be brought under the Old Bridge, where it will be loaded onto a truck and driven to the landfill,” said Dušić before the start of the action.
She pointed out that people persistently throw garbage into the river so that large amounts of waste are collected in every action.
“Every time we remove a large amount of garbage from the bed of the Neretva because people are unscrupulous and persistently throw it away, we cannot clean it. Every year the situation is getting worse and worse,” said Dušić.
She emphasized that the goal of this action is to present Mostar in its full splendor and beauty in the coming tourist season, and asked all fellow citizens to take a little more care in protecting the ecology and beauty of this city.
“This is a tourist place and we should send a message to the world that they are welcome to the beauty of Mostar, and not to some waste,” said Dušić.
The action was also supported by the mayor of Mostar, Mario Kordić, who wished the divers calm water and that the action would take place without any problems.
“Divers are an interesting group of people, enthusiasts who really love nature, diving, that underwater life. They are incredibly active and dedicate large amounts of money and much of their free time to help us all clean up rivers and nature. Today I wish them calm water and pleasant dives so that there are no problems. I am very grateful to them for what they are doing and the City of Mostar will continue to support every such action in the future and give its contribution,” said the mayor.
