Traveling by Train Sarajevo – Ploce increasingly popular

Traveling by train from Sarajevo to Ploče is becoming more and more attractive and tempting for both domestic passengers and tourists, and the FBiH Railways say that they are satisfied with the response and that the data on the number of passengers transported show the justification of the introduction of this line.

“Last year, in the period from June 2 to August 27, a total of 5,879 passengers were transported on the Sarajevo-Ploče-Sarajevo route on Fridays and weekends. Data on the number of transported passengers for this year’s season, which lasts from June 28 to September 1, are not final, because the season is not over yet. However, a comparison of the data from July 2023, when 2,289 passengers were transported, and July of this year, when 2,493 passengers were transported, shows the increased interest of passengers in this route,” the FBiH Railways announced.

The seasonal train has been running on this route since 2022, when it was re-introduced after the Republic of Croatia joined the European Union in 2013 and canceled many railway passenger lines, including the train to Ploče.

The FBiH Railways state that they would like this line to operate throughout the year, as was the case until 2013, however, business partners from Passenger Transport of Croatian Railways did not express the same interest.

The seasonal passenger train Sarajevo-Ploče-Sarajevo runs from June 28 to September 1 this year, on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. The train departs from Sarajevo at 7:15 a.m., and the planned arrival in Ploče is at 10:36 a.m. The return from Ploče is at 18:26, and the planned arrival in Sarajevo is at 21:51.

The price of a one-way ticket is 25 BAM, and a return ticket is 41.40 BAM and is valid for one month.
Passengers entitled to a 30 percent discount – students, journalists, pensioners and groups with more than six adult passengers – pay BAM 18.60 for a one-way ticket and BAM 37.20 for a return ticket. Passengers with 50 percent privileges – children from 4 to 12 years old, blind people and their companions, groups with more than 30 adults, pay 14.30 BAM for a one-way ticket, and 28.60 BAM for a return ticket.

The ticket price from Mostar to Ploče is 10.30 BAM in one direction, and 17.90 BAM for the return trip.

The FBiH Railways emphasize that tickets should be purchased no later than 12 o’clock the day before the planned trip and leave information about name and surname, year of birth and passport number at the ticket office. This procedure is mandatory for the purpose of more efficient customs control and shorter detention when crossing the state border between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Croatia in Capljina.

Tickets can be purchased at points of sale in Sarajevo, Hadžići, Konjic, Mostar and Čapljina. If the passenger starts his journey in Ploče, he will buy it on the day of the journey from the train conductor. Passengers pay for the ticket in convertible marks or in euros and cannot get it online, Fena news agency writes.
