Trnovo trnovo.baTrnovo Municipality is only around 30 kilometers away from the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina and it offers numerous possibilities for relaxation and recreation, as well as unbelievable memories for everyone who visits this municipality.

The entire municipality is characterized with enormous tourism potential thanks to many rivers, clean mountain creeks, Olympic mountains, rich flora and fauna, as well as numerous cultural and historical monuments. The number of both domestic and foreign tourists increased every day.

What attracts the tourists the most to spend their time at this place is the clean air and large concentration of ozone on the Igman mountain. Nature made an unbelievable harmony here, which can be seen in the extraordinary blend and combinations of animal and herbal life. Mountain areas are as beautiful in summer as they are in winter. Municipality of Trnovo experiences a special boom in the winter period.

“In the winter period, visitors are mostly attracted by skiing and other winter activities on Bjelašnica and Igman, while summer period is characteristic for alpine tours on Igman, Bjelašnica, Visočica, Jahorina and Treskavica, through villages Umoljani, Rakitnica and Šabići, with visits to natural beauties and cultural-historical monuments,” stated the press office of the Trnovo Municipality.

Many necropolises of stećaks, such as those in Šabići, Umoljani and Prečko polje, testify to the life in this area. For explorers and tourists, this is certainly one of the most interesting localities with numerous monuments from the Ottoman period, such as the mosque in Umoljani.

“Trnovo Municipality invests great efforts in creating preconditions for further development of tourism. Therefore, many projects aimed at improving tourist offer are in progress on Bjelašnica, such as the ‘Silver fox’ project, the ‘Bukova rava’ project which foresees a Bosnian village and the ‘Javorov do’ project. We should also highlight the multimillion project ‘Buroj Ozone’ that will contribute to the development and better tourist offer of this area,” the Municipality stated.

One of the most interesting locations is the vivid canyon of Rakitnica, which found its way between the mountains Bjelašnica and Visočica. On its way, the Rakitnica River flows through this vivid canyon in the length of 20 kilometers. With its untouched nature, this canyon represents a real tourist attraction for rare visitors its waters crash onto the steep cliffs, thus spreading into millions of particles that float in the air and contribute to the creation of a large concentration of ozone, making this area a real air spa in the vicinity of Sarajevo.

Tourism in this region experienced expansion during the 14th Winter Olympic Games in 1984. For this purpose, sport fields for winter sports were built, as well as many hotels, bungalow settlements, ancillary facilities and modern infrastructure.
