“Trump is unpredictable, the Balkans is not on his Priority List”

This Wednesday, during an interview conducted by Inela Subasic, guests discussed the United States (U.S.) elections.

What changes might unfold on the map of turbulent geopolitical events after the U.S. elections? Will it be better or worse? Will Donald Trump or Kamala Harris emerge victorious, and what implications will it hold for our country? The first election results were analyzed by guests Mirza Huskic and Adis Maksic in the studio, with Dzeilana Pecanin Allison and Albin Muslic joining via video call.

“Trump’s victory is quite certain, and he will indeed be the 47th president. A lot will change. The Republicans have regained the Senate, where they now have the majority. This is a very important part of the legislative branch, essential for any presidential administration to effectively collaborate and pursue its set agenda,” said Mirza Huskic, editor of the foreign affairs department of Federalna televizija.

“You’ve already shared the latest information. Donald Trump has won nearly all key states. It’s expected that President Donald Trump will make an address, likely a victory speech. In any case, technology alone, as well as the personnel, officers, and military working at the borders, isn’t sufficient. Many believe that the issue of building a wall should be revisited. It’s hard to say if he’ll jump into this immediately, as control over this is lacking with many people coming for economic reasons, though there are also many dangerous ones. Ms. Harris hinted that the causes of these migrations, namely poverty, need to be addressed. However, eradicating poverty to prevent illegal migration is an enormous task involving a large part of the world. Evidently, judging by this voting outcome, her idea wasn’t as popular as Trump’s. The Republicans regained the Senate, and having Republicans there will greatly benefit him. All those he appoints need Senate confirmation, and this will ease things considerably for him,” said Dzeilana Pecanin Allison, chief editor of the Bosnian-language service of Voice of America.

“The only slight surprise is the relatively convincing victory, but Kamala Harris’s chances of a comeback are now only mathematical. Polls hadn’t indicated this either way. By all accounts, there’s a strong chance Trump will win in all seven key states. ‘America First’ isn’t something Trump invented; it dates back to the 1930s and represents that isolationist foreign policy. Usually, a presidential switch doesn’t bring major changes, but now international relations will shift significantly. It’s uncertain how he’ll handle this policy since he is an unpredictable individual,” stated Adis Maksic, professor of international relations.

“Yesterday we had a very intense schedule. We visited a significant number of polling places. Our task was to monitor the voting process, and conditions before and during the election. The elections were conducted in a completely peaceful environment without any negative incidents. Voters were enthusiastic, and even before the polling place opened, about 50 people were waiting. Early voting is possible here, and that has eased the voting process. This is one of the main reasons why everything proceeded calmly. The early voting system is something voters use extensively, contributing to higher numbers as they have many voting options,” said Albin Muslic, an SDP representative in the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina (PABiH), Federalna writes.
