Bisera Turkovic, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) addressed the public on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of BiH’s membership in the United Nations(UN).

She reminded that on this day 30 years ago, Bosnians and Herzegovinians gained membership in the UN, true international legitimacy, recognition, and the right to defend, build, and live in their sovereign and independent state.

“The UN has recognized our renewed independence by making us all proud and happy. But in the years after, they have silently watched aggression and genocide, the suffering of the innocent, forcing us to defend not only our lives but peace, democracy, and civilization values, all that under a shameful embargo, fromthe fascism that was resurrected in this part of Europe,” she pointed out.

Thirty years ago, BiH achieved a great, historic victory, and continues to successfully defend a statehood that many more nations have not yet acquired.

“The millennial tradition and roots of this country are the foundation and source of this invincible strength of the man of BiH, who overcomes superior and difficult challenges with his hands tied. Even 30 years after the favorite flag was flown on the East River before this and new, even better generations, there are still many challenges to the country’s progress and strengthening. Meanwhile, the UN and the European Union (EU) are facing another difficult, generational test. The aggression against Ukraine continues unabated, civilians need help, defense, and peace,” she said.

Turkovic mentioned there should be no doubt about the victory of truth and justice but asked if the world and Europe needed more execution sites, mass graves, and massacres before realizing that only unity, cooperation, balanced development, and the completion of the European family could guarantee a peaceful and secure future of this part of the world, Klix.ba.
