Twenty Four Families received the Keys of their New Home

A total of 24 families who have been staying in collective and alternative centers in the area of Mostar, on Tuesday received the keys to their new apartments located in a multi-apartment building in the Baffo neighborhood of Mostar.

The key handover ceremony was attended by the Mayor of Mostar, Mario Kordić, the Minister for Human Rights and Refugees of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sevlid Hurtić, and the Federal Minister of Displaced Persons and Refugees, Edin Ramić.

– I have to thank the higher levels of government, specifically Minister Ramić, who has followed this project from the beginning. It was not so long ago when we were in this neighborhood in the first built building for the same reason, this is the second building and we had to build another building in the southern part of Mostar where we had a few technical problems in terms of issuing permits and wrongly estimating the value of the building, so we had to cancel the tenders, but I hope that we will quickly finish that and resolve this project – said Mayor Kordić.

In the settlement of Baffo, housing solutions have been provided under the system of non-profit social housing for 48 families who have so far lived in collective and alternative centers in the area of Mostar. The facilities were built as part of the implementation of the CEB II project “Closing collective centers and alternative accommodation through public housing solutions”.

Kordić pointed out that this is a very important project.

– This, after 30 years and that unfortunate war when many people were left without their homes, is an attempt by the local community and higher levels of government to solve that problem and to finally close collective and alternative accommodations, and for people to get suitable homes. The city of Mostar participated in the construction of both buildings in this settlement with a contribution of 480,000 marks for the estimated value of the land and about 300,000 marks for co-financing the construction of the building, and I hope that we will continue at this pace – emphasized the mayor.

He added that the City, through its services, has mechanisms to help people in need.

– All those who need help paying for electricity, utilities and the like, and at the same time meet the criteria prescribed by law, will be co-financed, that is, supported by the City of Mostar. That is our obligation and duty – asserted Kordić.
