HoP rejects the Initiative that would regulate the BiH Border Areas

The delegates of the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina today refused to adopt the initiative of a delegate of the Bosniak Club, Džemal Smajić (Party for BiH), which demands from the Ministry of Transport and Communications to remove all illegal signs that do not have state symbols from all border crossings and border areas.

With this initiative, the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina was invited to prepare legislation that would specify the way to solve these situations, while defining the competent authority for the removal of illegal markings.

As delegate Smajić stated that throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina, there are signs and boards visible without national symbols at border crossings, which, he says, mislead tourists, as well as BiH citizens. As an example, he cited the sign “Welcome to Republic of Srpska”.

The goal of the initiative, Smajić said today, is to regulate this problem, remove illegal signs/boards, but also what is most important – to make long-term changes in order to minimize the possibility of violating the border areas in this manner.

The initiative caused a debate among the MPs, and the delegate of the Club of Croats Zlatko Miletić (For New Generations) called on the competent ministry and the Border Police to find a way to regulate all border crossings and the symbols that are displayed there.

It was announced that the next regular session should be held on May 31st, Fena reports.
