Milorad Dodik’s separatist rhetoric and his threats to secede from Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) are dangerous, and his destabilizing actions will have negative consequences not only for him but also for all citizens of this country, wherever they live, said the Embassy of the United States (U.S.) in BiH.
As they stated, his rhetoric and actions endanger the European perspective of BiH, its democracy, and its economy.
“The Constitution of BiH is crystal clear – the entity does not have the constitutional authority to secede from BiH. The U.S. was equally clear that BiH is a sovereign, unique state, and we remain committed to its territorial integrity and multi-ethnic character,” the Embassy pointed out.
They reiterated that the U.S. will continue to hold accountable those who try to undermine BiH and its institutions and try to destabilize the country and the region.
“The views of the U.S. on the statehood of BiH, as well as the concept of constituent peoples and others, are known, but Mr. Dodik’s chauvinistic views and statements about his fellow citizens deserve a reaction. BiH is a multi-ethnic country where three constituent peoples live – Bosniaks, Croats, and Serbs – and others. All of them are Europeans, all of them are Bosnians and all of them are citizens of BiH. The U.S. is pro-BiH because it supports the people of BiH – all of them,” the Embassy concluded.
