Ukraine today called on Fox News to apologize and investigate an Easter broadcast that labeled the capital Kiev as a Russian city.
Several Ukrainian media outlets, including the RBC-Ukraine news agency, reported that Fox News had aired footage of Easter services held around the world, including one in Moscow attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
New York-based Fox News also shared footage of services taking place in the Ukrainian capital. However, the screen read “Kiev, Russia,” and about 20 minutes later the report was rebroadcast and read “Kiev, Ukraine.”
“If this was a mistake and not a deliberate political intention, there should be an apology and an investigation into who made the mistake,” Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Heorhii Tykhyi said on the X social network.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also reacted on the X social network and thanked the media for sharing the truth about what is happening amid the Easter truce announced by Putin yesterday.
“Instead of broadcasting a religious service from Moscow, the focus should be on pressuring Moscow to truly commit to a full ceasefire and to maintain it for at least 30 days after Easter, in order to give diplomacy a real chance,” Zelensky added.
