Its emerald beauty was described in numerous songs and stories, and many remember Una for socializing, friendships and first loves. The Day of Una River is being marked today.

Una River springs in the village of Donja Suvaja under the Stražbenica Mountain, flows through Martin Brod, Kulen Vakuf, Ripač, Bihać, Bosanska Kripa, Bosanska Otoka, Bosanski Novi, Bosanska Kostajnica, Hrvatska Kostajnica, Bosanska Dubica and Jasenovac, before flowing into the Sava River near Jasenovac. Total length of this beautiful river which belongs to the Black Sea basin is around 212 kilometers.

Today, Una is a part of vast treasure of natural heritage of Bosnia and Herzegovina, a place of rich tourist traffic and a palce where international sports-tourist event Una Regatta is held. Over 170 different species of medical herbs grow in this river, including the rare plant Campanula unensis, and around 28 fish species.

National Park Una is a place of education and fun. Services of fishing, rafting and diving are offered to tourists, and all pupils come to Una for classes of natural sciences.

The beauty of Una enchanted the young people from Krajina who gathered around the project “I Love Una“. Via social networks, various exhibitions and book promotions, they express their love for Una. They do not miss a single event, thus they follow weddings, competitions and all activities that take place around the Una River.

Una is famous around the region and Europe after the event Una Regatta, with more than 50 years old tradition. It gathers tourists from all around the world.

Mayor of Bihać Emdžad Galijašević congratulated the Day of Una River to all citizens of the area.

“Our Una River and its beauties are a symbol of Bihać and recognizable across our homeland and abroad. Taking into account that the Una River is unique, we must raise awareness about the protection of Una. As the founder of Una Emeralds Boško Marjanović said, the Una River should not be protected from people, but people should be taught how to protect the Una River,“ Galijašević said.
