US Intelligence Services: Putin did not order Navalny’s Murder

Russian President Vladimir Putin did not issue an order to kill Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, who died in prison in February, the Wall Street Journal reported Saturday.

The report, which cited US intelligence sources, said an investigation was underway into his death.

The CIA, the US National Intelligence Service and the State Department’s intelligence unit supported the position of US intelligence sources, the report said.

The cause of Navalny’s death remains unknown due to unexplained circumstances.

After Navalny’s death in prison on February 16, many European leaders and US President Joe Biden accused Putin.

Alexei Navalny was arrested in January 2021 after being hospitalized in Germany, where he was treated for poisoning. Western countries and Navalny himself have blamed Russia for the poisoning, which the Kremlin denies.

He was sentenced to 19 years in prison on charges of “extremism” and other crimes. He had already served 11.5 years on fraud charges.
