”There is a clear European perspective for Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) and significant steps have been taken to meet the 14 priorities set out in the European Commission’s Opinion, but much remains to be done, ” explained European Union (EU) Enlargement Commissioner, Oliver Varhelyi, who met with BiH presidency members yesterday and other high BiH officials and political leaders.
“BiH still has to fulfill many key reforms in order to become a candidate for membership,” Varhelyi emphasized.
As he said, his main message to political leaders is to work on political dialogue and initiate the European agenda again.
Also, he added that in that way, BiH will fully benefit from the Economic and Investment Plan for the Western Balkans and other EU programs and funds.
“As you know, the plan is to mobilize up to 30 billion euros of resources, which is 1/3 of the GDP of the Western Balkans region. BiH will benefit a lot from this program. There are many projects that we have agreed with BiH. There is Corridor Vc, demining of the Sava riverbank, road communication on the Sarajevo-Podgorica route. The plan can also be a chance for BiH to change its economic model and progress in the green and digital transition, “ Varhelyi stressed.
Komsic: Varhelyi expects a further strengthening of BiH institutions, not their weakening
Chairman of the Presidency of BiH, Zeljko Komsic told that four important messages were conveyed at the meeting, and one of them is that the EU stands behind its Opinion of the European Commission on BiH and expects an end to the blockade of institutions, not only when it comes to deciding on acceptance ofloans provided by the EU, but also on the implementation of 14 key priorities from the Opinion of the European Commission.
Dzaferovic: Blockade of institutions is the biggest problem in BiH
Sefik Dzaferovic, a member of the Presidency of BiH, said that after the meeting with the members of the Presidency of BiH, Varhelyi sent a very clear message, and that is that the institutions must function.
Dodik suggested that the entities and the Brcko District make an agreement on the property
“An attempt is being made to cover up the unconstitutional decisions of the Constitutional Court, for the fact that already decided matters (I’m talking about the BiH Constitution), let’s say about the property, are being tried to be returned to BiH’s jurisdiction, which is not its competence,” Dodik stated and added that the property which was determined by the succession of the former Yugoslavia, which is located in other countries should belong to the common level for the use of diplomatic and consular affairs.
