Verification Bag to Be Opened Today as Invalid Ballots Are Identified

At the Main Counting Center in Sarajevo today, by order of the Central Election Commission /CIK/ BiH, verification bag 002M#K600 will be opened and a specification of invalid ballots without security elements will be prepared by mobile teams, according to all security elements – stamp, watermark, paper and signature.

The Main Counting Center will begin its activities by order today at 12:00, which may be attended by observers accredited to observe the work of the Main Center for Early Elections for the President of the Republika Srpska.

The CEC issued the order to open the verification bag and prepare a specification of invalid ballots without security elements at its 77th session held on December 18, the Commission announced.

On December 15, the CEC announced, based on all polling stations processed, that the SNSD candidate for the early elections for the President of the Republika Srpska, Siniša Karan, won the elections, winning 222,182 votes, or 50.39 percent.

The second-place candidate was the SDS candidate Branko Blanuša, with 212,605 votes, or 48.22 percent.

According to CEC data, out of 1,264,366 registered voters, 449,376 voters, or 35.54 percent, exercised their right to vote in the elections.

There were 440,922 valid ballots, or 98.12 percent, 850 blank ballots, or 0.19 percent, while 7,604 ballots, or 1.69 percent, were invalid according to other criteria.

The early elections for the President of the Republika Srpska were held on November 23.
