The video-surveillance system covering the wider area of Bihać was put into use as part of the project called “Safe City”. Cameras located at key intersections and at the entrance and exit of the city will help the police in the field, but also contribute to greater security for citizens.

52 cameras at 12 intersections will monitor the citizens of Bihać around the clock, but also guarantee safety on the streets. The video surveillance system covering the wider area of the city was put into use as part of the “Safe City” project, for which approximately 540,000 BAM were allocated by the FBiH Government.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Una-Sana Canton points out that this surveillance system will play a key role in preventing crime and reducing the number of violations, as well as generally improving the safety of citizens.

“The function of these cameras is video surveillance. A certain part is already recording the registration, and in the future the software will be upgraded. In the coming period, we will be able to monitor passing through red lights, speed, lane… I note that these cameras are already in operation, Bozidar Zivko, minister of Internal Affairs of USK says.

The control room, which was presented to the mayor of Bihać and the cantonal prime minister, provides complete functionality, overview and supervision of the entire system. The goal is for this project to come to life in the area of the entire Una-Sana canton.

“We want to pass on the example of the city of Bihać to everyone else. This is an opportunity to invite other mayors to provide part of the funds through their budget, part of the funds to us, and to round this story to the entire canton in the coming year,” Mustafa Ruznic, PM of USC explained.

The authorities also assure that the cameras will not affect the privacy of citizens and that the recordings will only be used within the framework of police structures and access to them will be made only on the basis of the law.
