The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, expressed today the expectation that the air corridor between Cyprus and the Gaza Strip will start operating during the weekend.
Von der Leyen pointed out that the trial release of food collected by humanitarian organizations and the support of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) could start as early as today from the port of Larnaca in Cyprus.
“Together we are launching a maritime corridor from Cyprus – the EU, the UAE and America,” emphasized Von der Leyen after visiting the institutions in Cyprus.
She mentioned that the opening of the corridor is very close and expressed the hope that it will happen tomorrow or the day after tomorrow.
One of the humanitarian groups World Central Kitchen is currently working to collect food in Larnaca for the people of Gaza, with the support of the UAE, Srna news agency writes.
