Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić assessed the reactions of European and regional officials to the funeral of convicted war criminal Ratko Mladić in Belgrade as “hysterical”, adding that they were “not surprising”.
According to the Serbian media, Vučić said in a guest appearance on Serbian Radio and Television’s Dnevnik that “the moves and reactions of Sarajevo, Zagreb, Pristina and Podgorica are expected.”
Commenting on the decision of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Elmedin Konaković, to expel two people from the Embassy of Serbia in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Vučić said that “when you make a decision to expel someone’s diplomats, you have to think about whether someone else will expel your diplomats.”
“We will not rush, we do not want to enter into a pattern of hysterical reactions,” Vučić said.
The President of Serbia also said that he was concerned by the fact that Mladic’s funeral, which he characterized as a “very emotional day”, was “an alibi for many in the region to show how much they hate Serbia”.
Vučić announced yesterday that he will call for extraordinary parliamentary elections at noon today, which will be held on October 25.
