Vujicic: With The Introduction Of Tariffs, The Defense Industry Will Likely Be The Most Affected

Member of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina (PABiH) Miroslav Vujicic (SNSD), commenting on the Decision to introduce 30 percent tariffs on products from BiH exported to the market of the United States (U.S.), which came into effect on August 7th, said that it is evident the President of the U.S. found a way to protect the U.S., and that this is obviously one of the steps in some of his economic and foreign policy.

“BiH made a mistake there. The initiative of Minister Stasa Kosarac should have been supported, who had a different initiative compared to the other ministers, even proposed to abolish tariffs, and in that way open a dialogue with the U.S.,” Vujicic believes.

He states that he does not know how much BiH exports to the U.S. at this moment.

“I know that the defense industry will likely be the most affected, since they exported a lot to the U.S. Minister Kosarac’s initiative should have been supported, and the first step made. His initiative did not receive approval in the Council of Ministers of BiH,” Vujicic said.

According to him, regardless of the fact that the U.S. is protecting its production in this way, by introducing tariffs, the first step still should have been made, “and that first step was, as Kosarac proposed, to completely abolish tariffs.”

“Even though we are small, probably some discussion would have opened up to somehow improve BiH’s position in that sense. I believe that the U.S.’s exports to BiH are much greater than the other way around, but we still should have somehow entered the conversation to make the U.S. more favorable toward us,” Vujicic concluded.
