Citizens of the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton (HNK) are urged to be cautious, as weather conditions from March 10 to 17, 2025 are forecast to be very severe.

Namely, heavy rainfall is expected to significantly affect the area, and the worst part of the rain wave is expected to hit in the first hours of the forecast period, according to an analysis by the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts.

According to forecasts, more than 60 millimeters of rain could fall in the first 8 hours from the start of the rainfall, while the total amount in the period until March 17 could reach between 150 and 250 millimeters, with the possibility of higher amounts locally. This rainfall increases the risk of a sudden rise in the water level of the Neretva River and its tributaries, especially in the canyons near Donja Jablanica, ATV reports.

Residents of low-lying areas, along the river and in terrain prone to landslides and avalanches, should be on high alert and follow the announcements of the competent authorities.

BSC urges all citizens to prepare for the upcoming weather conditions in a timely manner. It is recommended to clean drainage channels, protect property, and exercise special caution in areas prone to landslides. Drivers are advised to be especially careful on roads through canyon areas, as heavy rainfall can lead to landslides and avalanches.
