At the Center for Transantlantic Studies at SAIS Johns Hopkins Unviersity in Washington, a panel discussion devoted to the fiscal policy and the economic situation in our country was held.
They discussed the suggestions on how to improve legislation in BiH that would make it easier for private companies to operate, as well as to improve the fiscal sector through a change in the regulations in the banking sector to allow for placement of cheap funds in the agricultural sector.
The Chairman of the Bosnian-American Foundation Goran Nedić attended the event, as well as the Director of the Department for Southeast Europe in the State Department Jonathan Moore, the expert associate at SAIS Dominik Tolksdork, the General Director of Energoinvest Enes Cengić and the Director of MIMS group Mujo Selimović. The President of the FBiH Živko Budimir opened the panel discussion, and an expert associate at SAIS Daniel Serwer moderated the panel.
Using a powerpoint presentation, Goran Nedić presented a series of concrete measures for immediate additional liquidity in the BiH economic system and stopping the policy of rigid austerity. Nedić also represented effective possible agreements for a stable government, reforming the banking and business sector. An agreement for growth will allow for accelerated economic progress for the next 10 years.
The General Director of Energoinvest presented projects of this company and a strategy for further development, and expressed readiness for cooperation with companies from the USA.
Jonathan Moore said that the US wishes to see a solution to the questions in BiH that would bring it to the EU. Dominik Tolksdorf said the economy was the primary problem in BiH, and corruption is the next obstacle for the progress of the country. This is especially an obstacle for foreign investments, and apart from that, an overly complicated bureaucracy represents just as big a problem.
It was concluded at the panel to prepare a document with recommendations for what should be changed in the legal framework in BiH in order to efficiently improve the economic situation in BiH, and with that attract foreign investment and improve the living standards of BiH citizens. This document would be sent to all relevant institutions in BiH, the State Department and the representatives of the international communities in BiH. The document will be available to the public.
