A Welsh Woman receives a Thank You Note for a Gift sent to BiH 22 Years ago

walesDuring the war in BiH, a campaign “Operation Christmas Box for Children” was organized in European countries. Within the campaign, many gifts were donated for children in BiH, packed in shoe boxes and wrapped in decorative paper. European children packed the gifts and sent them to the children in BiH. Twenty-two years later, one Bosnian woman found her fairy godmother via Facebook and thanked her. British BBC published the emotional story.

Thank you note was sent by Anesa Avdić Džinalić. She is married to Mirzet Džinalić, a man who received a gift in Montenegro after emigrating from BiH as a boy during the war. Mirzet and his sister Safida, who was 12 at the time, were so grateful for the unexpected gift that they kept the photographs of their fairy godmother Lowri Owain Glyn, and they wrote her name on the back. They carried the photo in the family photo album when they moved to Sweden.

“When I got in touch with her, it was very emotional. I found it unbelievable that they kept the photograph and found me on Facebook although they only knew my maiden name. I spoke to them and they reminded me of the things I packed for them – Mickey Mouse puzzle, toothbrush, my photograph and some other stuff. Safida was grateful because they did not have many things and she appreciated what she got. The fact that they were looking for me proves that,” said Glyn from Wales.

Glyn is now a married woman and a mother of two children. She intends to convey her experience with the shoe boy to her students so that maybe they decide to make someone happy for Christmas.

“Our school still participates in the Operation Christmas for Children and I will tell my students that you can never know whom you will make happy by sending a gift,” Glyn added.

Mirzet, his sister and his wife moved to Sweden and Glyn hopes she will have a chance to meet them.
