What is Amount of the External Debt of BiH?

The total external debt of BH in the third quarter of this year amounts to 8.287 billion BAM, out of which 7.831 billion are foreign debt and 456 million BAM is the external debt of the entities.

Out of the total amount, Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) is indebted 4,7 billion, Republika Srpska 2,9 billion, Brcko district 42,67 million, and institutions of BiH 74,62 million BAM.

When it comes to debts, FBiH has a debt of 79.53 million BAM, Republika Srpska 376.38 million BAM, while the Brcko District has no debts.

The indebtedness of BiH at the end of 2017 amounted to a total of 11.353.620.000 BAM, out of which 7.9 billion BAM or 69.16 % referred to external debt and 3.5 billion BAM or 30.48 % referred to the internal debt.

When compared to the same period of 2016, public debt was decreased by 744.59 million BAM or 6.15 %, with external debt decreased by 695.60 million BAM or 8.14 %, and the internal debt decreased by 489.99 million BAM or 1.38 %, as noted in the information of the Council of Ministers of BiH that should be considered by the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH.

When it comes to the overall state of public indebtedness, the FBiH participates with 52.28 %, the RS with 46.71 %, Brcko District with 0.36 % and BH institution with 0.65 %.

In the information was also stated that the participation of the public debt of BiH in GDP last year amounts to 35.62 %.

The largest share in the external debt has the World Bank – IDA and IBRD with 32.64 %, European Investment Bank with 24.32 %, Paris Club with 8.51 %, IMF with 7.53 %, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development with 6 , 87 % and the European Commission with 2.79 %,  which represents 82.66 % of the total external debt.

The service of external debt amounts to 995,28 million BAM last year, of which 873.54 million BAM or 87.77 % refers to principal, and 121.74 million BAM or 12.23 % to interest.

In the total amount of service of the external debt, the FBiH participates with 64,11 %, the RS with 34,96 %, while BH institutions and Brcko District participate with 0,47 and 0,46 % respectively.
