While the Party Leaders are negotiating with Schmidt, new Protests began

In front of the Office of the High Representative (OHR) in Sarajevo, protests began by citizens who oppose the changes to the Election Law, which High Representative Christian Schmidt plans to impose. In the meantime, Schmidt talks with party presidents about electoral reform.

These are the second protests this week, and the first ones were on July 25. The citizens who are protesting today, nearly 300 of them, have already blocked the road in front of the OHR.

SDP party initiated the first protests, and they were supported by all parties that oppose the ethnic concept of the Electoral Law. These are the parties that believe that Schmidt’s proposal will establish ethnic divisions.

The High Representative initially proposed that there be an electoral threshold of three percent for the election of delegates to the House of Peoples of the Parliament of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, with the aim of preventing the unblocking of the authorities during the constitution of the authorities in the FBiH and ensuring that the delegates from among the Croatian people are exclusively elected in the cantons in which they are Croats are the majority.

However, Schmidt allegedly gave up on this proposal, which he also hinted to Nermin Niksic earlier.

Considering that, it is expected that at today’s meeting, they will insist on technical changes in order to make the elections as transparent as possible.

The parties of Bosnia and Herzegovina with a Croatian sign and the government in Croatia supported Schmidt’s original proposal. The United States and Great Britain fully supported the OHR, Klix.ba writes.
