It is high time that the Parliament of FBiH gets down to work; stated yesterday the Head of EU Delegation in BiH Lars-Gunnar Wigemark after a meeting with the Prime Minister of FBiH Fadil Novalić on the implementation of the Reform Agenda and the European integration process of BiH.
“Months have passed since their last session. Today they gathered again to discuss an arrangement with the IMF, but there are other obligations except the money. The Government of FBiH forwarded into the procedure a series of provisions and laws that must be considered. We are in the phase after the local elections and I hope that these halts in their work will not last,” said Wigemark, adding that a draft proposal about the pension system was forwarded into the procedure already in February, but it has not been discussed yet.
Wigemark reminded that the Council of EU yesterday adopted another set of conclusions about the security situation and concern with the referendum held in the RS.
“A year ago we saw a promising commencement of the implementation of reforms. Some tough decisions were made,” said Wigemark and congratulated the Prime Minister and the Government for that. “As a result of these activities, we saw the change in the employment rate and a change in growth and in terms of that BiH is leading in the region. These statistical indicators were also confirmed by the IMF”.
Wigemark reminded that the Reform Agenda is one of the most important reforms since the end of the war in BiH. However, he said that the aim of the agenda is to create more workplaces for young people.
“We, from the EU, want to see the continuation of improvement of business environment in the country, facilitation of bureaucratic procedures for domestic and foreign investors, better public administration and strengthening of the rule of law for the strengthening of economy and business environment, as well as better transparency,” said Wigemark.
Prime Minister Novalić said that the Government is committed, ready and capable of implementing all reforms in the Reform Agenda and their own reform program which contains 97 items, unlike the Agenda which has 61.
Novalić added that one third of measures from the Reform Agenda has been implemented and that results are visible, especially through the reduction of the number of employees in civil service and the growth of GDP.
