Will BiH decide on the Reduction of Customs Rates for the Import of New Electric and Hybrid Vehicles?

The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of Bosnia and Herzegovina sent the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina the Proposal for a Decision on the Temporary Suspension and Temporary Reduction of Customs Rates for the Import of New Electric and Hybrid Vehicles until December 31, 2023.

The minister, Staša Košarac, pointed out that the Decision prescribes that the customs rate on the import of newly manufactured vehicles, which do not have a preferential status for goods from countries with which BiH has concluded free trade agreements, should be reduced from 15 percent to five percent for hybrid vehicles, and from five percent to zero percent on electric vehicles.

“Our goal is to ensure the continuity of the application of a lower customs rate when importing new electric and hybrid vehicles, since the deadline for the application of the existing decision of the BiH Council of Ministers expires on December 31, 2022,” emphasized Košarac.

He points out that the proposed decision provides relief for the import of electric and hybrid vehicles, and that he expects the BiH Council of Ministers to give the green light to its extension until the end of next year.

“The application of a lower customs rate during the import of this type of vehicle proved to be justified because official data show that the import and interest of citizens in purchasing electric and hybrid vehicles has increased,” explained Košarac.
