Wizz Air Is Preparing To Open A Base In Tuzla

The airline Wizz Air is currently preparing to reopen its base at Tuzla International Airport, which will be established somewhat later than earlier announcements had indicated, it has been confirmed.

The Tourist Board of Tuzla Canton (TC) recently completed a public call for subsidizing new air routes from Tuzla International Airport, and the airline Wizz Air received the highest number of points.

This has created the conditions for this former strategic partner of Tuzla Airport to restore its base, which was closed two years ago.

According to the initial announcement, the base was supposed to be established in September, but this has been postponed, it has been confirmed by multiple sources.

These sources reveal that Wizz Air is currently conducting so-called operational calculations related to the choice of destinations, and preparations of staff, as well as the selection of aircraft to transport passengers are underway.

“The base will likely be established in November, and no later than the end of this year. For now, it is known that new routes will be introduced in the winter flight schedule. All detailed information will be known in the coming days,” said one of the sources.

The Ministry of Trade, Tourism, and Transport of Tuzla Canton (TC) previously stated that the public call targeted new routes to Germany, Austria, Sweden, France, and the Benelux countries.

These are eight new routes to Hamburg, Paris, Cologne, Malmo, Gothenburg, Berlin, Brussels, and Frankfurt. Also, on June 15th, Wizz Air established a direct route to Vienna, and the aircraft occupancy is at a satisfactory level.

It should be recalled that in September 2023, Wizz Air closed its base in Tuzla, along with a drastic reduction in the number of routes and destinations, which had a negative impact on the operations of the local international airport.

The survival of that airport was later enabled through cooperation with new airlines, but strategic further development is now on the horizon with the reestablishment of base cooperation with Wizz Air.
