srebrenicaExactly one month before the marking of the 21st anniversary of the genocide committed in the UN safe area of Srebrenica, survived mothers of Srebrenica organized another quiet walk on the streets of Tuzla.

Survived women from Srebrenica will be at the Memorial Center in Potocari on the 11th of July, where many of them will bury the remains of their beloved ones.

According to the President of the Association Women of Srebrenica’ Hajra Catic, final peace on the 11th of July will find almost 105 people, who have been identified in the past year.

“Also, since last year we have a certain number of incomplete remains. On this occasion, I urge on families to come and make identification. If I find anything from my son, I would bury it. It’s really important that every one of our family members has their own grave,” said Catic.

Quiet walk of women from Srebrenica was joined by members of the Belgrade Non-Governmental Organization Women in Black, which said that the victims of crimes committed in Srebrenica deserve remembrance and appreciation.

“It is not enough to say that in Serbia prevails climate of impunity regarding the crimes committed by the Serbian regime. There is also denial of genocide in Srebrenica as well. This is evident at all levels. It can be seen at the political level, where the political elite, with the regime headed by Aleksandar Vucic, believes that the biggest foreign policy success of the Serbia in last year is their prevention of adoption of the resolution on genocide in Srebrenica,” said the coordinator of the organization, Stasa Zajovic.

She recalled that the members of this organization have been wanting from Serbia to proclaim the 11th of July 11 a day of commemoration of the genocide in Srebrenica over the past 15 years. However, she says, until today, their request was not approved.

“Also, we are requesting to build a permanent memorial to the victims of genocide in Srebrenica. Everything that the regime of Aleksandar Vucic is doing is acquiring the cheapest political points at the expense of the victims, to their humiliation, but also the humiliation of the citizens of Serbia who responsibly and in solidarity treat crimes of the past,” emphasized Zajovic.
