stari-grad-zidine-trebinjeWorks on the first part of the reconstruction of the walls of the old city in Trebinje, which began in the second half of February, are coming to an end.

The works are financed from the budget of the city with a value of 20.000 BAM, and the site was cleaned up and the walls were grouted, and damaged stones were replaced.

For the reconstruction of the walls, the city of Trebinje applied for funds through the Turkish Development Agency (TIKA) with a value of 138.451 BAM.

The project plans to reconstruct the walls from the southern city gate until the tunnel and  to install LED lighting, so that this cultural and historical object is preserved and becomes an even more important tourist feature of Trebinje.

The walls of the old city are a historical monument that is protected by the Law on cultural property of the RS, and therefore all construction works are carried out with th permission and in consultation with the RS Institute for Protection of Monuments.

In 2013, the City Administration of Trebinje finished the reconstruction of the main gate, the tunnel of the old city.
