Writer Meša Selimović born 106 Years ago

13082108_1164995283551426_1397281203_nMeša Selimović, one of the greatest Bosnian-Herzegovinian writers, was born 106 years ago in Tuzla.

Selimović’s most famous books are “Death and the Dervish”, “The Fortress”, “Silence”, “Memories”, and others. His works will remain permanently inscribed in the BiH literary history.

Selimović finished elementary and high school in his hometown. In 1930, he enrolled in the studies of Serbo-Croatian Language and Yugoslav Literature at the Faculty of Philology in Belgrade.

Selimović was elected the president of the Federation of Yugoslav Writers, he was an honorary doctor at the University of Sarajevo (1971), a regular member of the Academy of Sciences and Arts of BiH and the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts. Selimović received numerous awards during his lifetime.

Mesa Selimović died on July 11, 1982 in Belgrade.
