XXIX Anniversary of Sarajevo Winter Olympic Games

Last night, with solemn ceremony of Olympic Committee (OK) BiH, City of Sarajevo and ”ZOI’84” company, 29th anniversary of 14th Winter Olympic Games Sarajevo ’84 was marked.

President of OK BiH Siniša Kisić talked about the days when Sarajevo, BiH and former Yugoslavia was the world’s capital of sports, culture, economy, politics, spirituality, hospitality and cheerful youth.

‘Today we mark the anniversary of this important event and remind ourselves on those amazing days from 1984. This marking is a reminder to all positive achievements of the Olympic Games and Olympic values’, said Kisić.

Mayor Alija Behmen said that many larger cities didn’t have the Olympic Games, while Sarajevo did.

Behmen said that Sarajevo will soon host the second Olympic Games – the Youth Olympic Games, which will be held in 2017. He added that with this event the entire BiH and the region will once again be in the focus of world media, and so for the second time in its history Sarajevo will host 15 000 athletes from more than 40 European countries.

At 14th Winter Olympic Games,  1 450 athletes from 49 countries participated, and more than 4 500 journalists followed the event ,and during the Olympic games,  more than 2850 apartment, hotels were built and 9 500 new jobs were creates

The organisation cost 142.6 million USD, and more than 250 000 tickets were sold, and 2 billion people followed the event on TV.
