Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he had a “long and meaningful” phone call with U.S. President Donald Trump, following his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska. He said he would meet with Trump in Washington on Monday to discuss a resolution to the conflict in Ukraine.

Zelensky said Trump briefed him on the “main points” of his conversation with the Russian president in Alaska.

The Ukrainian president thanked Trump for inviting him to meet in person in Washington on Monday and said he would “discuss all the details of ending the war.”

He reiterated the importance of including Europe in the negotiations, the AP reports.

“It is important that Europeans are involved at every stage to ensure reliable security guarantees together with America,” Zelensky said.

The Ukrainian president said he first spoke only with Trump and then other European leaders joined in. In total, Trump’s conversation with Zelensky and other European leaders lasted about an hour and a half.

Yesterday’s Trump-Putin summit ended without any concrete progress on ending the war in Ukraine. Trump spoke with Zelensky on his way back from Alaska.
